Requirements

Must be at least 17 years of age.
Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
Must hold at least a third-class medical certificate.
Must receive an endorsement from an instructor certifying that the applicant is prepared for the knowledge test.
Must pass a knowledge test.
Must log at least 30 hours of flight time that includes at least 15 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor and 3 hours of solo flight training.
Must receive an endorsement from an instructor certifying that the applicant is prepared for the practical test.
Must pass a practical flight test with a Designated Flight Examiner.

Privileges & Limitations

May carry no more than one passenger.
May not fly for compensation or hire.
May not fly beyond 50 nautical miles of the departure airport.
May not fly an aircraft with more than 4 seats, more than 1 engine, with greater than 180 hp, or with retractable landing gear.
May only fly during daylight visual flight rules (VFR) conditions.
May not fly in airspace where communication with air traffic control is required.
May not exceed an altitude of 10,000 feet MSL or 2,000 feet AGL, whichever is higher.
